Sakurai House and Kabeya Museum

House and Museum of the Sakurai Family Who Flourished in Tatara Management

Tatara iron making proprietors were called tesshi (iron masters), and the Tabe Family, Sakurai Family and Itohara Family, who served at the very top among tesshi, were called the “Three Families of Tatara.” The house of the Sakurai Family consists of a gate of honor, Kanayago Shrine and warehouses centered on the main building that was constructed in 1738. This tells the present about the appearance of the tesshi residences. Moreover, materials that have been passed down over many years in the Sakurai Family are displayed in the Kabeya Museum. This derives its name from the Kabeya Store operated by the Sakurai Family.
